The Balerno Scarecrow Trail is back!

The Balerno Scarecrow Trail 2019

Balerno Village trust is very excited to announce that Balerno’s annual scarecrow trail is back. Last June saw the village decorated with 22 scarecrows of all shapes and sizes and this year we want to make it even bigger and better.

Entries last year included a World War 1 soldier, Minions and Batman so it’s time to get your thinking caps on and unleash your creativity. To enter, come along to the Balerno Village Trust stall at Balerno Farmers’ Market on 11 May (9am-1pm) or Balerno Gala Day on 25 May. Entries cost £5 and include a bag of straw to get you started. Or, if you can’t make those dates, email us at: farmersmarket@balernovt.org.uk.

Scarecrows have to be built by 5pm on Saturday 1st  June because on Sunday 2nd we will be going around taking photographs and putting together the Scarecrow Trail allowing everyone to go scarecrow-hunting. The trail will be available online and to pick-up from certain places in the village. As a village-wide event we will be asking all of you to vote for your favourite, either on our Facebook page or at special voting boxes around the village.

The winners will be announced at the Farmers’ Market on 8th of June with prizes including a specially commissioned trophy, Farmers’ Market vouchers, sweeties and certificates.

For more details visit www.balernovt.org.uk/scarecrows or the Balerno Farmers’ Market Facebook Page.

We are looking forward to seeing scarecrows popping up across Balerno very soon, and make sure you put the 3rd-7th of June in your diaries to see if you can track down all the wonderful creations!
