Thanks to the huge generosity of the residents and various community groups within Balerno and its surrounding area, we’re delighted to have raised enough money through fundraising to have bought and installed Christmas lights for Main Street in the village.
You are invited to come along to the official Christmas Light Switch On! This is being held at 6.45pm on Thursday 8th December in the Market Square on Main Street. We’re very pleased to say that the lights will be switched on by the head boy and girl from both Balerno High School and Dean Park Primary.
There will also be singing performances from Dean Park Primary School Choir, an appearance from Gala Girl and a chance to see the results of the recent community consultation. We also hope to have hot apple juice and roast chestnuts available, and there will also be glow sticks and balloon modelling for children. As well as all this we’re very pleased that Santa himself will be joining us for the light switch on. Just a flying visit as he’s very busy this time of year, but he’ll be back to join us at the December Farmers Market.
Huge thanks to everyone who helped with the fundraising for the lights, many of whom did so anonymously. We raised just over £3000 in 2 months through the generosity of local people, groups, organisations and businesses. Big thanks in particular to Balerno Community Centre, Balerno Parish Church, Balerno Village Screen, St Mungo’s Church, Balerno Village Trust, Balerno Gala, the C&B News, The Grey Horse Inn, The Letterbox Bistro, Tufty’s Dog Grooming, Balerno Garage, Artis Dental Studio, Balerno Pharmacy, J & J Hair, Head Quarters and Balerno Hardware.
And thank you also to everyone in the Balerno Community for supporting this move to Light Up Balerno for Christmas! We look forward to seeing you on Thursday evening!
