Balerno Christmas Farmers Market welcomed the crowds on Sat 13 December, and with 18 stalls to choose from shoppers had a huge selection to choose from. It was an icy morning but the gritters had been out early in the Main Street to make sure that everyone could get round the Market safely, and the Market area was really bustling with carol singing and music.
The prize for best decorated stall went to Belter & Cole, chocolatiers from East Lothian, while second place went to Youth Vision., and Gogo Live Trust picked up a Highly Commended accolade. The winner’s prize was to have their December stall rent remitted.
Judging of the stalls was by Gordon Macdonald MSP and Cllr Bill Henderson, Certificates were presented by Gordon who is pictured with Youth Vision and Gogo Live. Santa Claus however managed to get in on the act by handing over the certificate to Belter and Cole; he also managed to snaffle one of their delicious confections.
The Christmas Farmers Market coincides with the Balerno Christmas Tree Festival, which celebrated its fifth year of operation this year. Some 35 decorated trees were on show at Balerno Parish Church’s Ogston Hall and at the Scout Hall, while the Mill Cafe did a roaring trade on Saturday morning.
On Saturday evening the Broxburn and Livingston Brass band gave ‘A Concert for Christmas’. and the evening was rounded off by a mince pies reception in the St Joseph’s centre.
Another successful Balerno Christmas!
